THE FWD Railroad Car is an adaptation of the standard FWD chassis and has been developed for short line railroads where the operation of locomotives is unprofitable, and for all commercial hauling purposes where rail transportation in this capacity is practical.
In adapting the FWD chassis to flange wheel service on rails, great care has been taken to maintain the established FWD policy of interchangeability of changes or improvements. Consequently any FWD chassis now in service can be, by the "addition of certain parts, converted into a railroad car.
The exclusive constructional features accounting for the existence of over 20,000 FWD's on highways are equally valuable and are all retained in their operation on rails which largely eliminates the experimental factor common to ordinary trucks re-designed for railroad service.
Body equipment suitable for passenger service, designed for one man operation, or otherwise; commercial bodies of all kinds with or without hydraulic hoists, can be furnished for FWD railroad cars.
FWD railroad cars have now been in continuous operation for a sufficient length of time to show that their carrying and hauling capacity, speed, and ability to hold the track are suitable, and that they are capable of making substantial earnings and giving satisfactory service in the class of work for which they are recommended.
