Introduction:
This is the story of a man and his airline. It is impossible to separate the life of Robert C. "Bob" Reeve from the history of Reeve Aleutian Airways, headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. The airline's story goes back much further than the founding of the business in Valdez in 1932; Reeve had gained flying experience in the Midwest and South America before heading north during the darkest days of the Great Depression to seek his fortune.
Reeve Aleutian is the oldest surviving scheduled airline in the state of Alaska. It was not the first airline in the former territory, but through the years it has pioneered routes to one of the most inhospitable areas in the worldthe Aleutian Chain.
The airline is unusual in today's fast-paced, deregulated aviation industry in that it still is owned by the family of its original founder. Mrs. Robert (Tilly) Reeve is chairman of the board; Richard Reeve, oldest son of Bob and Tilly, is president; Janice Reeve Ogle, a daughter, is vice president of inflight services. Although Reeve Aleutian Airways flies a great distance up and down the Aleutian Chain, it is a small airline in terms of the numbers of airplanes it operates. It flies, as of 1988, two Boeing 727 jet aircraft, two Nihon YS-11 aircraft and three Lockheed L-188 Electra turboprop aircraft. The planes are based
