The Encyclopedia of Modelmaking Techniques presents an entirely new techniques-based approach to modelmaking. Materials, methods and components used in one area of modelmaking can often be transferred to another with very positive results. Rather than dealing with traditional subject areas, four main themes are identified-Structures, Landscapes, Figures and animals and Vehicles and machinery-and used to demonstrate the relevant techniques for a variety of materials. This approach enables the professional or hobby building modeller to access the section on figures to populate his landscape. Similarly, the military figure or vehicle modeller can find in the landscape section the secrets for placing his work in a background context.
This book also includes a brief history of models and modelmaking. A section on design looks at the different processes of research and construction and designing specifically for safety, ease of construction, display, control and operation. Comprehensive tools and materials lists identify both essential and supplementary items and ensure that you have the correct tools for your modelling projects.
Each of the four major themes is illustrated by a series of step-by-step projects, demonstrating the various techniques and materials used in professional and hobby modelmaking. An inspirational gallery of works by highly regarded modelmakers is accompanied by detailed descriptions of how the models were created. Finally, a section on presentation will show you how to make the most of your projects by displaying them to their best effect.
