This purports to be a complete, accurate story of the street railway operations of the Elmira Water, Light and Railroad Company, its predecessors and successors, with emphasis on the city operations. Accounts of accidents are not included.
Some of the many written items consulted are cited in the footnotes, starting on page 49. For the most part, primary source materials were used. These included the files of microfilmed newspapers located at the Steele Memorial Library of Chcmung County.
Many individuals aided this writer in the preparation of this story, and to these he is gratefully indebted. Some include Elmer Dean, W.R. Gordon, Clair Horton, C.R. Lovell, S.D. Maguire, George E. Votava, Clark Wilcox of the Chomung County Historian's Office, and the librarians of the Steele Memorial Library of Chemung County. Special thanks are due Elmer W.
