A publication of route codes to facilitate the description of routes in electronic data interchange.
WHAT'S IN THE ROUTING SUPPLEMENT
The DSI RAIL Routing Supplement to THEOFFICIAL RAILWAY GUIDE provides a listing of physical routes. It is a reference guide and code book to facilitate electronic data interchange.
It does not provide the legal status of a route. A number of the routes contained herein are closed.
Other routes contained do not protect a through rate or the lowest rate. Tariffs, price circulars or contracts are the only source of legal routes.
THE OFFICIAL RAILWAY GUIDE beginning with the September/October issue contains the necessary supporting data, specifically,
0 Carrier SCAC code, AAR audit number and carrier name cross reference.
El An expanded station index identifying AAR
Rule 260 junction codes and railroads (and station numbers) serving specific points.
The DSI*Rail Routing Supplement contains route
codes and descriptions for over 35,000 active
routes. Each route listing includes:

0 Origin railroad SCAC
EI Destination road SCAC
E Route identifying number
El Route description:
0 Road SCAC
0 AAR Rule 260 junction code
0 up to 7 pairs of SCAC/260 junction codes
will appear depending on the number of route segments.
HOW TO USE THE ROUTING SUPPLEMENT
To use, first look up the origin railroad. Then look up the destination carrier's SCAC in the listings below the origin carrier's SCAC. All existing routes for those two carriers will be listed. Other publications provide the legal status of each particular route. If you don't know which railroads serve a certain point, you can look up the point name in the expanded geographic section to find the valid carriers. AAR Rule 260 junction codes are also listed in the station index (immediately after the point name). The codes are typically five-letter abbreviations of point names.
Routes in The DSI*Rail Routing Supplement are listed in order by orginating road SCAC, destination road SCAC, number of segments, and finally, the full route description. See the sample route listing below.
