25 Amtrak's Alco RS-3 Fleet
The formation of Conrail in 1976 resulted in the transfer of the Northeast Corridor to Amtrak, along with the transfer of 85 locomotives, including 45 Alco RS-3s. Most lasted just 10 years, but one remained active until 2001.
34 Reunited - Conrail's SD8OMAC Fleet Back Together
Divided between Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation in 1997, Conrail's 29 EMD SD8OMACs are again operating under one owner. NS swapped a dozen rebuilt SD4Os for a like number of CSX SD8OMACs and will eventually rebuild the units for additional years of reliable service.
