10 EMD's Versatile GP9 - Part 2
In this installment of EMD's GP9s, we cover the Bangor & Aroostook, Belt Railway of Chicago, and Boston & Maine GP9s.
23 Union Pacific GE U50Cs - Part 1
By the late 1960s, Union Pacific's fleet of double-engine diesels had proven the concept that bigger is better. When it came time for a second round of orders, only EMD and GE were sent proposals. EMD responded with the DDA4OX and GE with the U50C. Although the U50C
was a slightly more conservative design, electrical and other problems led to its early demise. In this issue, we cover units 5000-5019.
43 Jersey Central SD35s
Plagued by financial woes, the Central Railroad Co. of New Jersey did manage to buy second-generation diesels. Although few in number, they did
help the carrier's bottom line by reducing the number of units needed to move CNJ freight. The 12 SD35s delivered in 1965 were the heaviest and most powerful diesels on the CNJ up to that date.
