Based on Florida's Panhandle, the Bay Line was an early diesel buyer and claimed in 1947 to be the first Class 1 railroad to be completely dieselized. From its first Alco RS-1 s, to its final new locomotive purchase, an EMD GP38-2 in 1975, this modern railroad and its successor have operated some 41 diesels.
