10 General Electric's Crew Quarters Road Switchers Warren L. Calloway
Although it was to be the cab design of the future, GE's Q-series cab option found a market limited by changes in labor agreements that reduced crew size. Several railroads requested proposals, but only Seaboard Coast Line purchased B23-7s with this early version of today's comfort cab.
19 The Georgia Group, post-1960 Warren L. Calloway
In a follow-up to our earlier Georgia Group article, we take a look at the second-generation diesels purchased by the Georgia, Atlanta & West Point, and Western of Alabama railroads, as well as the various paint and lettering schemes applied to their diesels.
26 The MoPac/UP C36-7 Fleet Don Strack
Following Missouri Pacific's 1984 order for 60 SD50s, the carrier, by then heavily influenced by merger partner Union Pacific, placed an order for 60 C36-7s.Delivered in UP's yellow and gray scheme, these units became the last new units to wear MoPac lettering.
38 EMD'S GP20 Diesel Era staff
In 1959, EMD introduced five new models, each targeted to a specific market.
One of these, the GP20, offered railroads the extra horsepower needed to be competitive in a market that was increasingly dependent on long-haul trucking. The last of the first-generation diesels, the GP20 was EMD's first turbocharged four-axle locomotive.
