On the other hand, it seems almost forgotten that Thuringia once had a number of interesting narrow-gauge railways. The last narrow-gauge railways in Thuringia, which were still in operation in the Sixties, included the line Gera-Gates - Wuitz-Mumsdorf, briefly called "GMWE". 68 years, this 31.2 km long meter track line connected the industrial city of Gera with the railway station Wuitz-Mumsdorf in the lignite area around Meuselwitz.
