The 1940's and early 1950's were the colorful transition years for the Delaware & Hudson moving from steam to diesel motive power. Our photographic rail journey starts in 1946 at Albany and wanders north to Saratoga Springs, Fort Edward and Whitehall with side trips to North Creek and Rutland before reaching the Canadian border at Rouses Point; over the subsidiary Napierville Junction, the trip ends at Windsor Station in Montreal. Starting again, our second excursion heads west to Binghamton and south to Carbondale and Wilkes-Barre. Beautiful Challengers moving tonnage are shown in contrast to no-frills roadswitchers pulling time freights. Newly-delivered RS-2's are exhibited hauling milk trains out of Vermont while modern 4-8-4's pull varnish with stainless steel observations. This 128-page all-color book with over 180 large format photographs covers the D&H motive power and trains from 1946 through 1969.
