Inside Dust Jacket
Here is the story of the development of the Diesel on American rails, written by one man who was personally involved in three decades of Diesel progress. John Kirkland was chief inspector of Diesel locomotives for Baldwin, and was responsible for setting up and running the first Diesel locomotive inspection department for his company. Later he was placed in charge of Diesel locomotive production for Baldwin, independent of steam locomotive manufacturing. He stayed with Baldwin, and successors until 1970.
The story of the Diesel locomotive in America unfolded before John F. Kirkland's eyes. As an engineer, he took notes, and he remembered. Today Interurban Press is honored to share Mr. Kirkland's lifelong experience with you as its Special 80.
