FOREWORD
It has been almost four decades since the last trolley rattled through the streets of Danville, Pennsylvania. The intervening years have practically obliterated all traces of the trolleys and the crews that manned them have passed on. Corporate records have long since been destroyed and time has clouded the memories of the few individuals who have survived the ravages of the grim reaper.
Hence the compilation of this small monogram has been somewhat difficult. The greater part of the data contained herein was gleaned from the files of the "Northumberland County Democrat" a weekly newspaper published in Sunbury. Additional facts were extracted from the annual reports of the company which were filed with the Pennsylvania Department of internal Affairs; the special U.S. Census of Electric Railways of 1902 and 1907; and the various trade journals of the period.
Personal reminiscences and photos wore made available by Ira Baylor, one of the few surviving employees. Other photos were obtained from Arthur T. Folke, Danville historian, John Sticklin. and the Montour County Historical Society. Thanks are also due Mrs. Barbara Martine for typing the manuscript. Dante DiMatteo for drafting of map, and last but not least, Felix E. Reifschneider for his many suggestions, proofreading of the manuscript and publication. Undoubtedly I have overlooked someone who has contributed something over the years and to this individual.
