In this volume, ofthe Critters series, we will be looking at some of the more obscure builders revisiting some ofthe larger builders, looking at some homebuilts; and for over halfthis work, taking a closer look at the rolling stock, infrastructure and applications that the critters gave locomotion to. Some of the builders are so obscure that we can offer nothing more than their one page write-up in the 1925 Mine Equipment Catalog. Others, Ed Cass has done a great job in researching, and developing some scale drawings of.
Two thirds ofthis volume will examine some ofthe applications, specialized equipment and portable track systems that were so much a part ofthe critters' everyday, working world of the past. We will look at applications such as road paving (in depth), agriculture and specialized light and heavy industries that used light railways as a general part oftheir operations. Included are some rolling stock drawings which will help capture the feel and/or size ofthis rolling stock.
