Fading and failing memories, and a lack of written materials, compounded by the destruction many years ago of the official records, has made this history of the Cortland County Traction Company the most difficult one undertaken by the writer. Nevertheless, the material herein is believed accurate, and it is hoped that those who read it will find it of interest.
Written materials consulted included: various issues of the Cortland Democrat and the Cortland Standard, Blodgett scrapbooks in Cortland County Historical Society rooms, Cortland County Chronicles, volume 1, article entitled "The Trolley line" by R. Curtis Harris, Cortland County Chronicles, volume 2, article entitled "Little York Lake' by Clara A. Elder, Grip's Souvenir Historical of Cortland (1899 or 1900), various Cortland City Directories and various Public Service Commission Annual Reports.
