EDITORS NOTE
In the three years since the 1st edition of the Comprehensive Guide was published, it has been quite well received by rail enthusiasts, locomotive historians, rail equipment manufacturers and suppliers. With this warm reception has come much new information pertaining to the current state of industrial locomotive operations. So much so, that the 1st edition has become obsolete and I have hastened to complete this 2nd edition. With innumerable updates, additions, deletions and simple corrections of errors, this new volume is almost more different from the 1st edition than it is the same. Where discrepancies between the two books are found, the information in this edition should be considered the more reliable.
