FOREWORD
This our Special 32, "Cars of Sacramento Northern," marks the twentieth anniversary of the establishing of INTERURBANS publications It was back in 1943, when World War II's clouds were darkest, that INTERURBANS NEWSLETTER--INL for short---appeared in mimeographed form; its aim, to bring news of hometown electric railways to those in the services and necessarily out of touch.
The war ended, but INL continued as a monthly publication of eight pages with illustrations---covering the national interurban and traction scene. As electric railways steadily disappeared, it was decided to leave the dwindling news happenings to others and aim INTERURBANS squarely at the historical field Our Specials have followed this policy since, growing in size and thoroughness with each new issue.
We thank our many readers who have stayed with us since 1943; we thank equally our many newer readers, who find in our publications a valuable link with yesteryear when streetcars and electric trains were to be found in all cities and most towns of America. We hope to continue this very pleasant association for another twenty years.
Special 32 is an outgrowth of Special 26, "The Sacramento Northern Railway ." Throughout this issue, reference is made to Special 26 for pertinent photographs, rather than republishing them herein and thus losing valuable space.
So, here are the big green cars of Sacramento Northern, living again within these pages. We hope you enjoy renewing their acquaintance.
