Although entitled The Cars of Lincoln-Mercury, this volume is more than that, since in addition to the product histories of all the Lincoln and Mercury lines including captive imports such as the European Capri, it encompasses those of closely and peripherally related makes. The former consist of Continental, which was variously a series, free-standing marque and, finally, a car line, and the Canadian-built Mercury truck, Meteor and Frontenac. The latter include Edsel, which began life as the product of an independent Ford Motor Company division later integrated with Lincoln and Mercury, and the Canandian Monarch, a medium-priced better-than-Mercury derivative that was sold by Dominion Ford Dealers. Also discussed are the currently imported Merkur, a product of Ford-Werke AG, and the deTomaso Pantera that was sold by Lincoln-Mercury during the early- and mid-seventies. Despite the division's being a unit of Ford Motor Company and the fact that its products have shared major components (engines, body shells and sheet metal, and chassis and driveline parts) over the years with the various Ford Division car lines, the latter are not a part of this presentation and are discussed only in those contexts where their relationship with a Lincoln-Mercury vehicle is relevant.
