DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION
Packed with detailed artworks of naval aircraft, The Essential Aircraft Identification Guide: Carrier Aircraft, 1917Present is a highly illustrated guide to the carrier-launched aircraft used by the world's navies since World War I, outlining their capabilities, deployment and use in combat.
Organized by era and country of origin, the book offers a comprehensive survey of naval airplanes and helicopters, including examples produced by the US, Russia, Japan, Sweden, the UK and France. Separate sections detail the aircraft by campaign, such as Japanese aircraft in the Pacific theatre (1941-45), Argentina in the Cold War era, France from 1946-61 and modern US aircraft, 1990 to the present day.
The book includes every major carrier-launched type, from fighters, ground-attack, torpedo bombers and reconnaissance aircraft to search-and-rescue helicopters. Every major model from the biplane to the modern stealth fighter is featured, with examples including the Fairey Swordfish, Aichi D3A2, Grumman TBF-1 Avenger, Etendard IVP, Buccaneer S2, Chinese J-15, Sea Harrier FA2, F-14 Tomcat and E-2C Hawkeye.
