It was a crazy world!!! Thousands of individuals had the gold fever which started in 1896 when gold was discovered in the Klondike region of the Yukon Territory. Momentum gathered and people came from all directions to the various seaports on the Pacific Coast. It was here that they purchased the necessary, or not so necessary, equipment and groceries to be shipped north to the coast end of the old mountain trails that led northerly to the upper area of the Yukon river watershed. These people went over White Pass or Chilkoot Pass by the thousands and congregated in the vicinity of Lake Bennett where boats were built for drifting the river to the Klondike.
This is over simplification as there were other routes to the Klondike but these were the main routes and in particular used here to set the location for the subject of this book which was located down river from Lake Bennett at the start of the Yukon river and just above the present City of Whitehorse, Yukon.
