The success of San Francisco's first cable car line, the Clay St. Hill Railroad of 1873, prompted Andrew S. Hallidie to found the Cable Railway Co.
This booklet is a copy of the company's original prospectus and was used in the promotion of the cable car system for other cities.
The prospectus is located in the Special Collections Department of the San Francisco Public Library and the assistance of the staff is gratefully acknowledged.
