Many AREAS could use the air-plane as an added convenience, but in Alaska it
was vital. I could both make a living and help to build something worthwhile. So in short order, I found myself flying an old Standard biplane in skies where no pilot had ever explored. My goals were simpleto spend my life in aviation, to raise a family, to own a home, to serve well the land of my choice, and, God willing, to bounce a grandchild on my knee.
However, after the first several years of exploratory flying, I grew increasingly concerned that I could not achieve my goals. One by one, great pilots around me met disaster. Some of them were more skillful than I in the business of tooling an airplane over Alaska's storm lashed and unexplored terrain.
