FOREWORD
The following information was prepared for the benefit of railroad fans, hobbiests and historians in dedication to the memory of the many men and women who worked through the great steam-electric, interurban and deluxe passenger train era in every department of the railroad industry.
This courageous, close-knit group of railroad employees worked with pride, keeping these live steam-electric locomotives and deluxe passenger trains moving people and commodities throughout the land, helping to develop our America into the great nation we now cherish.
Being a retired rail, I had the great privilege of working in this steam-electric, inter-urban and deluxe passenger train era, 1920's through 1970's, for 35 years as passenger and freight conductor; also working through the depression years on many railroads and yards in various positions such as switchman, fireman, station-agent, telegrapher, baggage-man, yard clerk and section hand.
Having had all this experience I was able to compile this information which I sincerely hope you will read and use with pleasure.
DALE "BLACKIE" GOULD
