The PB&NE, a terminal switching railroad, was a subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel; it provided rail service to all departments of the Bethlehem Plant. I began working as a Clerk in the Operating Transportation Department and diligently performed my job for the next seven years. In June 1955, I entered their supervisory force, first as an Assistant Yardmaster, then as a Yardmaster, and thus I was exposed to all phases of steelmaking.
