As a project of the Baltimore Streetcar Museum, this volume drew on numerous sources, primarily the Annual Reports to the President and other records of United Railways & Electric, which the Museum was fortunate to have acquired. The authors found themselves in the unusual situation that the early records through 1929 are extensive and rather thorough, but the documentary record tends to diminish beginning in 1930, and virtually disappears after 1950. The December 1949 issue of the Headway Recorder, compiled by Henry J. Leinbach, Jr., was helpful with rosters and data through that date, but some of the text about events after 1929 is based on surmise and memory.
As most of the black & white photographs in the book are from the collection of the late Louis Mueller, which he generously bequeathed to the Museum, that of co-author, George Nixon, and that of the Museum's library, credits are given only for photos from other sources.
