In kicking off Volume 2, we'll see Amtrak's only Alco switcher, #7110, an S2 model acquired from the U. S. Army and mainly used around the Ivy City Engine Terminal in Washington, DC. Along with the two former NOUPD SW8 units (covered in Volume 1), Amtrak also stabled four additional SW8s, #747-750, acquired from Conrail. The first two were former NYC, PC, Conrail and the latter former Lehigh Valley heritage - the only two units on the Amtrak roster from the LV. Eighteen former Santa Fe model SSB1200 units were acquired in partial payment for a trade of 18 SDP4OF units moving from Amtrak to Santa Fe. The SSBI200 was a Santa Fe model contrived at the South San Bernardino Shops by rebuilding EMD NW2, SW9, and SW1200 units. After being acquired by Amtrak, #550-567 were assigned to shop switching as well as work in the M-of-W yards of the NEC. Two SW1500 units
