PREFACE TO THIRD EDITION
The Third Edition of the Alco Historic Photos catalog adds the "Recent Diesels" that were the subject of a separate catalog supplement published in 1982, thus bringing the list of locomotives all the way to the end of production in 1969. It also shows for which of the locomotives there is a "photopaster" and/or Form 1007 specification on file (see pages and for details). And of course all the corrections, additions and deletions that have been previously published are incorporated. But it's too much to hope that no more will ever surface.
As previously indicated, this has not been a one-man undertaking. We are most grateful for the continued help of numerous Chapter members in administering the collection, and particularly in helping carry out the arduous move to a new location in 1982, perhaps the most prominent in that endeavor being Louis Wasserman and Robert Dubits. And it was made easier by the help and cooperation of Schaffer Library's Ruth Anne Evans, whose need for space finally necessitated the move. Special thanks are also due George Hockaday and John Nelsen (NMRA) for paving the way with Alco Power (Tom Hassett) for transfer of the file of 4x5 negatives from Auburn (Recent Diesels and SM series). And to Dan Dover (of Extra 2200 South) and John Nelsen for detecting the errors and missing information in the listing of the recent diesels.
