7 SWING-WING BIRDS OF PEASE Pease Air Force Base, New Hampshire, is the home of the USAF's first Strategic Air Command unit to become operational on the General Dynamics FB-111A supersonic bomber. Its introduction into service is described in this feature by Ralph Villers, and a colour plate depicts the FB-111A camouflage pattern.
12 CANADAIR'S V/STOL STORY For many years, Canadair in Montreal has worked to perfect tilt-wing types of VTOL and STOL aircraft. Test-flying with the CX-84 prototypes is now virtually complete and a 90-passenger STOL airliner using some of the same technology has been designed. Both types are described and illustrated by cutaway drawings.
