7 SWING-WING BIRDS OF PEASE Pease Air Force Base, New Hampshire, is the home of the USAF's first Strategic Air Command unit to become operational on the General Dynamics FB-111A supersonic bomber. Its introduction into service is described in this feature by Ralph Villers, and a colour plate depicts the FB-111A camouflage pattern.
12 CANADAIR'S V/STOL STORY For many years, Canadair in Montreal has worked to perfect tilt-wing types of VTOL and STOL aircraft. Test-flying with the CX-84 prototypes is now virtually complete and a 90-passenger STOL airliner using some of the same technology has been designed. Both types are described and illustrated by cutaway drawings.
17 LIGHTNING FROM LOMBARDY In the AIR ENTHUSIAST series of "Warbirds", the Macchi C-202 is described, with illustrations in colour and a cutaway drawing.
25 THE AIRLINER THAT WENT TO WAR The Junkers Ju 86 was designed to an unusual dual specification, intended to produce both a high speed airliner and a medium bomber. The evolution of the specifically commercial version, about 50 examples of which were built, is traced in this account, and an exclusive cutaway drawing is presented.
32 MODEL ENTHUSIAST The latest plastic aircraft kits reviewed, and a page of colour profile drawings of the MiG-19.
35 PLANE FACTS Answers to readers' enquiries, drawn from AIR ENTHUSIAST files: Fairchild 91; Bloch MB 200; Germany-Japan flights; Nihon Hikoki L7P1 amphibian; Westland P.12 "Delanne" Lysander.
38 FIGHTER A TO Z: Continuing the AIR ENTHUSIAST encyclopaedia of the World's fighter aircraft, from the Arado Ar 67 to the Armstrong Whitworth F.K.10.
41 IN PRINT New aviation literature noted.
43 VETERAN AND VINTAGE The last surviving and airworthy Dornier Do 24 recently flew back to Germany from Spain, and is to be permanently preserved. This account traces the operational history of the Do 24s used by six nations and illustrates the last example in colour.
47 THE UBIQUITOUS HAWK Part Ill of the feature begun in the November issue concludes the story of the Curtiss Hawk 75 and P-36 family. Details are given of the operational career of this famous fighter in service with the Armde I'Air and Vichy French forces, the Nationalist Chinese Air Force, Norwegian forces in Canada, Peru, the Dutch forces in the Netherlands East Indies, the Royal Air Force and the Finnish Air Force.
