This booklet is the result of suggestions by many interested modelrails and collectors. It is hoped that it will be of value to identify models which I have built, and is not to be considered a catalogue from which to place orders. The builder cannot accept more requests.
Selection of pictures herein were governed by quality of photo available and the avoiding of duplicate engines. Picture captions refer to the prototype. The number in brackets is the serial number (see roster on pages 60-61). This roster, listed in order of being built, shows 201 custom-built engines, including some diesels and railcars, all of which are 1/4" 0-gauge unless otherwise indicated. This does not include some built from kits, rebuilds or partial work. The choice of prototype in most instances was that of the customer. An analyst might come to various conclusions as to the popularity of the types and sizes. One fact stands out: the 4-6-2 or Pacific type is more numerous than any other.
Engine frames are of heavy brass channel, using oil-impregnated bronze bearings for driver axles and transmission, except in a few cases where no motor was used. Engines are sprung partially, depending on location of gear box and number of axles; the gear box being rigid. Prior to World War II engines had various other types of construction of chassis. Boilers and tenders are of brass construction.
